The successful candidate will manage a team to provide quality animal care and to liaise with end users to provide for the needs of the animals and the research. Basic Requirements: Home Office License modules A-C and be holder of a Home Office Personal LicenseIAT certificate or membership diploma is desirablePrevious experience of working within and supervising of a team is essentialIn-depth experience of working with experimental animals is essentialExtensive knowledge of pre-and post-operative careExperience of performing regulated procedures and aseptic surgical techniques under LASA guidelines. Duties and Responsibilities: Be able to supervise and motivate a team of animal technicians and assign staff to key tasksBreeding, weaning, sexing and classification of offspring; maintaining and establishing complex breeding strategies in liaison with appropriate researcherAssist NACWO and deputies with the training of new staff including; introduction to working practices and standards in facility, detailed record keeping and Home Office guidelinesMonitoring the health status of all animalsUndertake Home Office Licensed procedures required for transgenic research including; blood and tissue sampling, superovulation and embryo transferMaintaining detailed records of all animals, stock levels and proceduresBe responsible for the maintenance of procedural and surgical equipment, general supplies, cleanliness and tidiness of procedure and surgical roomsEnsure that there are adequate supplies of consumable items by requisitioning from stores or ordering from specialist suppliers, devise and maintain records so that groups are charged appropriatelyOffer non-sterile assistance for surgical techniques undertaken in the facility, deliver training and advice on best practice for maintaining asepsis during surgeryWeekend work will be required in a pattern of 1 in 4.
