Apply on recruiter's website Highways Operational Lead Location either - Blackburn, Barnet, Salford, North Tyneside About the roleWe are seeking a highly motivated individual who is looking to transition from a highway operational role/ junior project management role into a business management position; helping support the day to day highway businesses in our Local Authority Partnerships across the UK. The successful candidate will ideally have experience of working within a highway maintenance service for a private sector organisation on a public-sector highway contracts. Experience of traffic design and street-works, along with highway maintenance would be beneficial. The successful person will also ideally have some experience of management and financial management.The purpose of this role is to work with the Operations Director (Highways) in managing the operational services, alongside the local highway directors across the UK. The role is required to help manage and expand our highway service, within a national and local business context. LocationThis will be a national role covering: Blackburn, Barnet, Salford and North Tyneside, so could be based from any of these offices. It will require travelling to other Capita offices, client offices and sites, with limited overnight stays (1-2 nights per week max). What you will doLead by example inspiring others to achieve exceptional standards.Deliver clear and achievable targets for the business.Support in improving team performance against objectives (including KPIs), providing the team with regular updates on how they are performing against targets. Where necessary, take decisive corrective action report problems, solutions and progress through the appropriate governance arrangements.Help implement change and improvements in the local business units.Support the delivery of financial Business Plans for the year with the Operations Director that aligns with the vision for each Partnership's local/regional business.Support local business directors in the delivery of all financial aspects, working with the finance team including calculating the monthly 'work in progress' on projects; forecast cost to complete; ensuring outstanding debts are monitored and invoices are pursued.Engage with the commercial and legal teams on all legal/commercial matters to ensure the appropriate judgement is made when agreeing commercial terms so that risk is balanced with reward.Undertake (or arrange for) project health checks; peer reviews and project reviews to reduce/eliminate the commercial risks on project/service delivery. Your experience will include:Experience of highway maintenance and/or project management in a highway environment.Knowledge of highway construction practices.A blend of private and public-sector experience.Excellent inter-personal and communication skills; ability to engage effectively with staff at all levels.An ability to influence and to take important decisions and act upon those decisions quicklyIdeally, having some knowledge of highway maintenance (including traffic and streetworks elements) within a privately outsourced local authority environmentExperience of financial and business performance through the Management of Business process.
