Founded in 1952, it has over 52,000 members who are committed to improving patient care, developing their own skills and promoting general practice as a discipline. General practice is the largest branch of the medical profession. It provides some 1 million consultations for patients in the UK every working day and deals with 86% of the health problems experienced by the UK population. This role involves the management of the day to day core activities of the local Faculty office in South East Scotland, including provision of administrative support to the local Faculty Board and coordination of RCGP initiatives and events delivered locally. This role will include travel within the Faculty area to attend Board meetings, education and social events. Educated to 'A' level standard (or equivalent), you will have relevant experience in an administrative role, be competent in using the MS Office suite and have knowledge of financial software. You will have excellent organisational and communication skills and the ability to manage competing priorities. You will also have experience of running events, providing committee administration, minute-taking and of managing basic finances. In this varied and busy post, you will provide a high standard of administrative support to the Faculty Board. Your role will include organising Faculty Board meetings, planning and delivering educational courses and conferences, finance and database management, and maintaining communication with the members via the Faculty website and eBulletins. You will effectively be managing your own time, whilst under the supervision of the Faculty Support Manager based in Edinburgh. Knowledge of the health sector would be an advantage. Although based in Edinburgh, meetings and events are held in venues throughout the South East Scotland Faculty area so the successful applicant must have access to their own transport and a flexible approach regarding hours is necessary as attendance at evening meetings will be required as well as occasional UK travel.
